The City of Madison Planning Division’s Neighborhood Grant Program offers neighborhood associations, business associations, planning councils, and other neighborhood groups community enhancement and capacity building grants. In 2015, the Sherman Neighborhood Association received a grant to create Yard Art. According to a participant, “I met several new neighbors and really enjoyed the social aspect of the project.” Another said, “This was a really fun and unique way to meet neighbors and get to know others better…I met both neighbors I’d never seen before and got to know others whose faces I recognized.” View this article to learn more:
In 2014, the Sunset Village Neighborhood Association received a grant to plant an orchard at Lucia Crest Park. According to project leader Brian Andersen, “The kids really enjoyed pitching in and it will be exciting to see the trees (and kids) grow over the years. As the trees mature we plan to host neighborhood events around the harvest and use of the fruit. This is a community orchard to be enjoyed by all, within moderation and reason.”
