The newly elected PTO Board met last night for the first time and began planning for the 2021/2022 school year. Meeting minutes are here.

Though we are all looking forward to the warm days of summer and a little more normalcy and freedom (compared to last summer), the end of the school year is also bittersweet. Friendships have been made over the course of the year and sometimes it is hard to connect with our school buddies over the summer. The PTO is committing to finding ways to keep and enhance connections throughout our school community over the summer break and are in the process of developing plans to have safe, outdoor playdates and fun activities for all grade levels. Perhaps it will be popsicles and a book share at Marlborough park, a playground playdate at Thoreau’s lower playground, or bubbles and chalk at some other location accessible for our families. Stay tuned for emails from us with an open invite to some safe and fun play over the summer months so our kids can stay connected. If you have an idea for an easy activity or location that works for you, contact Alexa at president@thoreauschool.org or 608-320-6929.

If you want to read all the latest and greatest news from the Thoreau PTO, you can sign up for our email newsletter. Email our PTO Secretary Lindsay Riesch (thoreaupto@gmail.com) to be added to our PTO list serve. You can also “like” us on Facebook (@thoreaupto).

YEARBOOK
The Yearbooks were delivered to school today! Only a few days before our kids will be paging through, filling out their favorites of 20/21, writing notes to their besties and maybe trying to answer a few Thoreau trivia questions added just for a little fun.

We are still looking for donations to help cover the printing costs. Each year, every Thoreau student receives a yearbook for FREE! To help cover the cost of the yearbooks, the PTO is asking for donations of $5 (the approximate cost of printing one yearbook). If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the yearbook, you can Venmo Alexa (@Alexa-Wautier) or mail cash/check (made out to Thoreau Elementary PTO) to the school. Thank you!

GREEN SPACE UPDATES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Summer Volunteer Opportunity!!! Looking ahead to summer and maintenance of our vegetable beds, we’ve created a volunteer signup for help with watering the back beds over the summer. Katie Moore, one of our green space coordinators, is looking for families to water once during the week for which they sign up. Once you sign up, Katie will contact you with more details on accessing the shed and water.

JUNE 8TH FUNDRAISER AT THE CHOCOLATE SHOPPE (SEQUOYA COMMONS)

Our final dine-out fundraiser of the year will be at the Chocolate Shoppe in Sequoya Commons, on June 8th.

Join us to celebrate the end of the school year…and 20% of all sales that evening will be donated to the Thoreau PTO (no promo code needed)!

BOX TOPS!

Box Tops for Education is an easy way to earn cash for our school, with products we already buy. Now you can simply scan your store receipt with the Box Tops mobile app to identify participating products and instantly add cash to Thoreau’s earnings online.

How do you do it? All you need is your phone! Download the Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit Thoreau’s earnings online. Twice a year, Thoreau will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever we need!

Great news! If you shop for groceries online or have digital receipts, you can submit your email receipts as well! Visit the app or website for more details and to see a full list of participating retailers.
