There are exciting changes coming to the Cherokee fields. Our students are ready to climb, swing and spin, and we hope you will join us in giving them the opportunity. With your help, we will be building Phase 1 of an amazing playground in July 2018!
After watching students stand around on their phones, or create their own, unsafe climbing and sliding equipment, a group of teachers, parents, and community members came together to spearhead the playground project. Thanks to input from students, we have a design with middle school needs and wants in mind. Think ninja training with the bonus of calmer kids in classrooms. The benefits of play and exercise do not stop when students leave elementary school.
Starting with Cherokee’s blank slate of a playground, the project is ambitious with an estimated cost of $75,000-$80,000. Funds from grants and generous donations have formed a base that we are eager to watch grow. Donations of any amount are appreciated and can be made by:
- Check to the Cherokee PTO with the words “playground fund” in the memo line. This is the preferred method of donation because there are no processing fees for checks. Drop your check off at the main office, or send to: CHMS PTO, Box 5587, Madison WI 53705.
- Online donations. Donations go directly to the playground fund.
Cherokee Heights PTO has 501(c)3 non-profit status and donations are tax-deductible. We will acknowledge all donations.
There are many other opportunities to get involved as well! Download a flyer with more information, and stay tuned for more ways to help this effort.
On behalf of Cherokee Heights Middle School students and the PTO Playground Committee, thank you for all you do for our Cherokee community.
