The Crawford-Marlborough-Nakoma Neighborhood Association extends an invitation to our Fall Open House at Warwick Way Gardens, which will be held on Saturday, Oct 8, from 9 am to noon. Everyone is welcome to come, whether you live in the neighborhood or not. Our Gardens are in the greenspace at the corner of Warwick Way and Whenona Drive, two blocks west of the Seminole Hwy Bridge. Please come check out the fall Goldenrod and Aster blooms, and perhaps some lingering butterflies and bumble bees. Now that Monarchs are migrating, we are seeing more of them at the gardens than earlier.
There will be some refreshments, kids’ activities, a photo display illustrating the story of our Pollinator and Rain Gardens, and some native plants and seeds to give away. Our gardens demonstrate what can be accomplished on a small budget, poor soil, and many dedicated, determined volunteers and mentors. Both current and former Arboretum staff have been generous with their advice and encouragement. We’ve enjoyed great cooperation from Wisconsin Department of Transportation, City of Madison Parks, and Dane County Plant Dane. A City Planning Division Neighborhood Grant in 2020 allowed us to add the Interpretive Signs, message boards, and several amenities for human and wildlife visitors. Generous donations from friends and neighbors helped us complete these projects. This year we’ve expanded the Rain Garden a bit, and added a new bench. We hope you will come and help us celebrate this beautiful space!
